CLA – Corrections Leadership Association

SDF is proud to announce that it has joined the Corrections Leadership Association (CLA), the premier U.S.-based organization representing the executive leadership of state, federal, and large local correctional systems.
Through this membership, SDF hopes to strengthen its engagement with senior corrections decision-makers and reinforces its commitment to supporting correctional agencies with advanced, responsible, and mission-focused solutions. Joining the CLA reflects SDF’s dedication to contributing to thought leadership, innovation, and best practices that enhance safety, operational effectiveness, and public security across the corrections ecosystem.

The Correctional Leaders Association is a national professional organization in the United States made up of the top executive leaders of major correctional systems. Its membership is highly exclusive and consists primarily of governor-appointed directors, commissioners, and secretaries who oversee state departments of corrections, as well as leaders from large local systems (e.g., Los Angeles County, New York City, Philadelphia), the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and military corrections.

What It Does

  • Leadership & professional development: CLA promotes excellence in corrections leadership by supporting its members with training, conferences, and networking opportunities focused on current challenges and best practices.
  • Policy influence & collaboration: The association seeks to influence national policy and practice in corrections that affect public safety, staff recruitment and retention, rehabilitation, and operational improvements
  • Information sharing: Through partnerships (e.g., with Correctional News) and research collaborations (such as surveys and reports on issues like restrictive housing), CLA helps disseminate insights on evolving trends and reforms in corrections
